our story

how we got here

Five small chapters. They got us to a long weekend on the lake.

chapter i · the meet-cute

a broken calf machine

stay on that machine too long and you'll walk in circles.

Josh walked up to Ivana at the gym, deadpan. (The machine was broken.) She told him her name. He awkwardly run-walked away. We've been laughing about it ever since.

chapter ii · the first date

four dates in one day

a hike, a cliff, a documentary, an axe.

We hiked (we both packed food). Ate cake at Café Latte on her favorite cliff. Killed time with an ocean documentary. Threw axes — she won. Eggs for dinner. That was that.

chapter iii · minnesota → colorado

an adventure, our own way

we kept choosing the harder, prettier road.

Five Minnesota winters taught us how to stay warm together — long drives, lake days, the kind of quiet that only comes after a snowfall. Then we packed the car and pointed it west. Colorado gave us altitude and open sky, and the slow, stubborn work of learning how to love each other well: a little braver every year, a little softer too.

chapter iv · the proposal

on a mountain, after work

the drone caught the lead-up — and then crashed.

Josh sent the drone up for a sunset shot, dropped to one knee, and right on cue the drone nosedived out of the sky. We got the first few seconds on video and absolutely none of the actual proposal. Very on-brand for us. The story will outlive any footage we could've had.

chapter v · July 2026

back to Big Sandy Pond

a small lake, a long table, a long weekend.

One private lake house. Three days with the people we love most. Pontoons, kayaks, lanterns at the firepit. Saturday is the wedding — Friday and Sunday are for everything else.

if you'd like to give

three small funds

Your presence is the gift, full stop. If you'd still like to give something, here are the three things we're saving toward.

honeymoon fund

A few quiet weeks in a place we've been saving for. Coffee on a balcony. No itinerary.

cat fund

For the very-good-cats who hold down the fort. Vet visits, the good food, a new tower.

land fund

Saving toward a small piece of land of our own — trees, a garden, a little quiet.
